AMLP Conference London
Updated: Apr 18, 2020

In November 2019 I attended the 13th Annual European AML and Financial Crimes Conference in November 2019 in London, an AMLP forum event, and participated in the Master Class for “Incorporating the new ML/TF risk and lessons from latest enforcement actions / Tax evasion, avoidance & ML – evolving best compliance practice”.
It was great hearing from leading international experts in the field of law, regulatory compliance and enforcement sharing their expertise and knowledge with professionals from all over Europe who serve as Heads of Compliance and law in the financial sector and regulatory organisations. This forum consisted of presentations, case studies and round table discussions.

Topics included:
The newly released EU Supervisors Risk Assessment identifying new products and services and higher risk areas
UK’s FCA regulations implemented for crypto currencies
ECB’s opinion on risk to financial sector incl risk assessments, transaction monitoring, virtual currencies
5th ML EU Directive
USA developments on guidance for Prosecutors
Recent cases on enforcement
Tax evasion/avoidance – UK’s enabler strategy, the formulation of the JITSIC, beneficial ownership registers and the recently implemented Corporate Criminal offence (UK).
This was an amazing, edifying and memorable occasion for professional development and I came away with a greater understanding of new developments in the field of compliance, law and best practice. The case studies on enforcement and discussions on compliance obligations and implementation were very instructive as we all participated in brainstorming and then presented our strategies for compliance/best practice.
